For the Equestria Daily Newbie Artist Training Grounds.
Day 22: Ponies Hanging Out.
Rainbow Dash and Twilight check out the new Daring-Do comic book.
Yeah, like the title says, I'm taking a short break from vectors. Needed a bit of a refresh. I'll probably get back to my usual vectors tomorrow.
Ink n' paper. I did 3 pencil sketches
I used Illustrator to position the letters, and Photoshop to bend the cover sketches to the curves of the book. I printed that out, put it on a light box, and traced it with illustration pens. I'm... not too good at it.

Wow, the cover looks like a font of adventure!
I find that in large drawings especially it pays off to have some fairly thick lines on all the outer surfaces. I use a "brush" pen (actually just a specialized felt-tipped pen) for mine because it allows for a variety of widths and fluid strokes. The bold outline helps glue all the elements together.
